To work as a security guard in Quebec, the law requires a licence issued by the Bureau de la sécurité privée (BSP). To obtain it, you must complete a recognized 70-hour training program. The training required by the BSP: 70 hours

Security module — 54 hours

Theory course mandatory under the Private Security Act: the environment, the laws, the functions, prevention and emergency procedures.

First aid module — 16 hours

Workplace first aid course mandatory according to the BSP: first aid, CPR level A+ (infant level C optional), AED and anaphylactic care. Approved by CNESST.

Classes available during the day (2 weeks), in the evening (3 weeks) and on weekends (4 weeks) — in English and French. Online guard training, in French, will be available soon.

Register for the training

Reserve your spot online with a $200 deposit, or register in person at 5165 Chemin Queen Mary, Suite 512 (Snowdon Metro).

Complete the 70 hours

Take the security module (54 hrs) and the first aid module (16 hrs) on the schedule that suits you: day, evening or weekend.

Receive your certifications

At the end of the training you receive your attestation of completion along with your CNESST-approved First Aid certification.

Apply to the BSP

Submit your security guard licence application to the Bureau de la sécurité privée. We assist our students with this process. See the BSP’s official list of required training.

How long is the BSP training?
70 hours in total: 54 hours of security guard training and 16 hours of first aid and CPR. Three formats are available: 2 weeks during the day (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday), 3 weeks in the evening (5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday to Thursday) or 4 weeks on weekends (9 a.m. to 7 p.m.).
